AUSTIN, Texas – The women's soccer team lost to Dallas Baptist, 1-0, Friday afternoon. It was a hard fought game by both teams and there were a number of stoppages due to injuries.
A total of four stoppages occurred in the first half of the game due to collisions or injury and each team had to go to their bench early.
Each team registered just two shots throughout the first half but none were on target. After halftime each team came out at a frantic pace looking for the game-winning goal.
Megan Anderson did her best to give the Hilltoppers the lead in the 47
th minute as she raced passed multiple defenders and fired off a shot headed for the left side of the goal. However, Kerry Edwards came up with a terrific diving save to keep the game scoreless.
Dallas Baptist found the winning goal in the 53
rd minute as it came off the foot of Ashley Cox for her third goal of the season. Lea Sedwick drove down the right side of the field and sent a pass straight through the Hilltopper defense. Cox received the ball and spun around the defender in front of the net to put the Patriots up 1-0.
Anderson did her best to even the score in the 65
th minute via a free kick 20 yards out from the goal. Anderson's shot was saved by Edwards, which was the last shot of the game for either team.
The majority of the game was played in the midfield as both teams held a fairly even amount of possession and only fired off a combined nine shots.
The Hilltoppers will be back in action this Sunday at Lewis-Chen Family Field as they host Midwestern State. Opening kick is set for 1 p.m. Live video and stats will be available on the Hilltopper Athletic Website.
