EDMOND, Okla. – St. Edward's Men's Soccer opened up Heartland Conference play Thursday evening with a 4-0 victory over Oklahoma Christian at Eagle Field. The win was the 10
th-straight conference win for the Hilltoppers.
In the 21
st minute, St. Edward's (6-0-2, 1-0 HC) drew a foul on Oklahoma Christian (6-3, 0-1 HC).
JOSH TAYLOR's shot off of the free kick was a good one that Eagle goalkeeper Evan Helker had to save. On the ensuing cornerkick, Taylor's cross found
GRANT MOBLEY who nicked it to
KYLE PUJATS for a goal.
STEVE AOUDOU almost made it 2-0 in the 26
th minute, but his shot hit the post. The score stayed 1-0 going into the break.
In the second half,
HAIDEN STILES came into the game and sparked the Hilltopper offense. The junior forward assisted on the second St. Edward's goal in the 72
nd minute off of his cross into the box. Stiles would score his first goal of the season in the 73
rd minute to make it 3-0.
DYLAN ARMSTRONG capped off the scoring in the 79
th minute as he scored his team-leading fifth goal of the year.
St. Edward's outshot Oklahoma Christian, 19-17. The Eagles put eight shots on goal, but Hilltopper goalkeeper
KEVIN LEIB saved all eight and kept his scoreless streak alive. The senior stopper has only allowed one goal in eight matches and has not allowed a goal in 331 minutes. That streak spans over four-plus matches. The only goal to cross the goal line against St. Edward's this season was a penalty kick.
