Final ResultsWICHITA FALLS, Texas – Junior
JAY HOGAN moved up 10 spots in the final round of Tuesday's Midwestern State Invitational to climb to a tie for 16
th place and lead St. Edward's to a tie for sixth place.
St. Edward's (305-304-307=916) played consistent golf but could not put that big round together like the teams in front of them. The Hilltoppers tied for sixth with fellow Heartland Conference member Oklahoma Christian (313-289-314=916). St. Mary's (302-299-297=898) won the tournament, defeating the other 17 teams.
"This was not the end to the fall season we were looking for, but there were some definite positives to build on for the Spring," St. Edward's Head Coach Todd Ohlmeyer said. "It was good to see Jay play well the final 36 holes. We just need to be more consistent and I am confident that will happen this Spring."
Hogan (81-72-74=227) led the Hilltoppers with 33 pars during the tournament and shot one-under on all par-fives. Even with shooting in the eighties in round one, Hogan would finish tied for 16
th place.
DILLON VAN ESSEN (74-76-78=228) ended tied for 19
th place, while
ANDREW SPEAR (74-78-79=231) tied for 33
rd place. Also competing for the Hilltoppers were
THOMAS HOLTZMAN (76-81-76=233) who tied for 42
nd place and
ELIOTT AZOULAY (86-78-79=243) who tied for 79
th place.
The Hilltoppers will be back in action Feb. 8-9 when they travel to take part in the always tough Matlock Invitational. The 54-hole, two-day event will take place at Lone Palm Golf Club in Lakeland, Fla.
