AUSTIN, Texas – The St. Edward's Women's Soccer team did not enjoy falling out of the National Top-25, and Thursday it took it out on Texas A&M-International, 6-0. The victory was the third in a row for the Hilltoppers as they were playing the Dustdevils in a non-conference match at Lewis-Chen Family Field.
In the early going, St. Edward's (7-2) had a hard time connecting on passes forward. Finally, in the 30
th minute, newly inserted substitute
KELLY ANDRUS gathered a long pass ahead from defender
LIBBY FISH. She would then bang a shot off of the Dustdevil goalkeeper for her first goal of the season.
In the 38
th minute, the duo was at it again. Fish sent a long pass ahead that Andrus ran down. This time Andrus got to it in plenty of time. She took the keeper one-on-one and dribbled around her for an easy tap-in goal.
That is how the half ended with the Hilltoppers outshooting TAMU-International, 8-1.
In the second half,
VALENCIA MOBLEY made it 3-0 in the 51
st minute as she took a cross from
EMYLINAH ELVHAGE. Her shot back through the box to the far post was true for her first goal of the season.
SABRINA CONE notched her team-leading fourth goal of the season in the 57
th minute to put the game out of reach. Mobley got credit for the assist.
Down the stretch, a lot of Hilltopper newcomers were able to gain valuable experience as the team emptied the bench. To add to that experience,
JORDAN LOYA and
LEXI PLATZ scored their first collegiate goal.
St. Edward's outshot the Dustdevils, 21-2, and had seven cornerkicks compared to just one for TAMU-International.
St. Edward's will back to Heartland Conference play on Saturday when they travel to take on Newman. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. at Wilkins Field in Wichita, Kan. Live stats will be available on the Jet Athletic Website.
