GOODWELL, Okla. – The St. Edward's Softball team was going for the series sweep, but it wasn't in the cards as it dropped the series finale against Oklahoma Panhandle State on Sunday afternoon, 4-1.
Panhandle State (13-19, 2-7 HC) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning as the Aggies strung three hits together for the early lead.
St. Edward's (6-13, 6-3 HC) got a run back in the top of the third inning when they loaded the bases with one out.
MORGAN DUFOUR drew a walk to bring in
MEGAN HOFFMAN and cut the lead to 2-1.
The Hilltopper offense was able to put a runner aboard in every inning but unable to come up with a big hit, stranding eight runners for the game.
The Aggies put up single runs in the third and sixth inning for the final margin, 4-1.
OLIVIA BURDICK (3-4) got the loss, allowing two unearned runs on three hits in 1.1 innings of work.
LAUREN SLATTEN came on in relief for the final 4.2 innings, striking out nine batters.
The Hilltoppers will be back in action Wednesday when they host longtime rival #9 St. Mary's. The two teams will square off in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. They will also play a single game on Thursday at noon. All games will take place at Diane Daniels Field.
