HORSESHOE BAY, Texas – Freshman ANDREW SPEAR finished tied for third place to help lead St. Edward's to a fourth-place finish in the 2016 Heartland Conference Men's Golf Championship, Tuesday afternoon at Apple Rock Golf Course.

Spear (69-75=144), who came into the second round with a one-shot lead, carded three birdies throughout the round, but couldn't overcome a slow start. Spear played the front nine at five-over par, while playing the back nine at two-under to finish at even par for the tournament. He was named to the All-Tournament Team for his efforts.

St. Edward's (305-301=606) improved upon its score from day one, but dropped a spot on the final day to finish in fourth place.

Dallas Baptist (295-292=587) held on for a one-shot victory over St. Mary's (299-289=588). Oklahoma Christian (306-295=601) finished in third place.

Dallas Baptist's Garrett Fey (70-72=142) defeated Lubbock Christian's Scott Brown (73-69=142) on the first playoff hole as Fey made a par on hole 18 to win the tournament. Spear tied with Josh Aguilar of Dallas Baptist for third place.

Also competing for St. Edward's were DILLON VAN ESSEN (78-76=154), JOEY HEARN (81-73=154), and JAY HOGAN (77-77=154) who all tied for 17th place. THOMAS HOLTZMAN (84-80=164) ended in 40th place.

The Hilltoppers will likely be back in action May 2-4 when they travel to take part in the NCAA South Central/West Regional Tournament. The three-day event will take place at the University Golf Course in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Live coverage will be found on the Hilltopper Athletic Website. St. Edward's ranking in this past week's regional poll was high enough for many to think they will advance to the postseason.
