GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Junior forward Isabel Hernandez scored in double digits for a fifth-straight game Saturday but it would not be enough as the St. Edward's University women's basketball team fell to Western State Colorado 54-46 inside Brownson Arena on the final day of the Holiday Inn-Airport Thanksgiving Classic.
The Hilltoppers (3-4) took the lead late in the first quarter and pulled within two points in the fourth quarter. However, the Mountaineers (3-3) shot 75 percent in the final two minutes to pull away with the victory.
Fairen Sutton led SEU with four points in the first quarter before WSC went on a 15-2 run in the second period. St. Edward's responded with 7-of-8 shooting from the free throw line to cut Western State's lead to seven heading into halftime.
Hernandez and Bailey Hill combined for 19 second-half points with five steals from Haley Joly but the Mountaineers shot 60-percent from the floor in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
