LUBBOCK, Texas – St. Edward's women's basketball closed its regular season Saturday with an 84-80 overtime loss to Lubbock Christian.
BAILEY HILL scored a season-high 19 points while
KHIANI CLARK led the team in scoring with 20.
LEXI FATHEREE also scored 19 and
SHAKERA BARNES finished with 18 points and seven assists.
Despite the loss, St. Edward's (17-8, 13-3 Heartland) closes the regular season with its first Heartland Conference title in program history. Lubbock Christian (17-10, 12-4 Heartland) extends its home winning streak to 35 games.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Barnes scored six points in the opening period to give St. Edward's a 10-9 lead heading into the second quarter.
- In the second period, the Hilltoppers and Lady Chaps exchanged the lead four times.
- Fatheree closed out the half with back-to-back 3-pointers to put SEU ahead, 29-26.
- Hill extended St. Edward's lead to 36-28 with 8:21 to play in the third quarter.
- The Lady Chaps surged back behind a flurry of free throws and 3-pointers to take a 54-52 lead at the end of the third quarter.
- In the fourth quarter, St. Edward's and Lubbock Christian tied the game three times before a 66-66 deadlock sent the game into overtime.
- Hill tied the overtime at 80 with her fifth 3-pointer of the game before LCU closed out the win with four straight free throws.
HILLTOPPER NOTES
- St. Edward's set the program record for free-throw percentage in a single game, going 21-of-21 from the line.
- The Hilltoppers split the season series with Lubbock Christian after winning at home, 58-50.
- Five Hilltoppers accounted for all of St. Edward's scoring.
- Barnes moves into sixth-place for single-season assists in the St. Edward's record book.
