Hoffman’s Home Run Highlights Hilltopper Victory

St. Edward’s hitting on all cylinders in 8-1 win over Oklahoma Panhandle

AUSTIN, Texas – Sophomore MEGAN HOFFMAN drove in a season-high three runs Friday to lead St. Edward's to an 8-1 victory over Oklahoma Panhandle.
 
St. Edward's (10-19, 3-1 Heartland) pounded out 10 hits and played flawless defense to stay tied for first place atop the Heartland Conference standings. Oklahoma Panhandle (10-20, 0-4 Heartland) managed just one run on five hits as it lost its fourth straight game.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (St. Edward's 8, Oklahoma Panhandle 1)
W-Slatten (5-7), L-Ibarra (5-10)
  • Oklahoma Panhandle opened the scoring in the first inning with a solo home run by Madison Heathington.
  • St. Edward's responded with two runs in the bottom of the first thanks to Hoffman's two-RBI single.
  • The Hilltoppers plated three more runs in the second inning on the strength of back-to-back doubles by sophomore KAYLA APPLEBY and junior SAMI WILLIAMS.
  • St. Edward's continued to pour it on with single runs in each of the final three innings.
  • Hoffman notched her first home run of the season in the fifth inning to highlight the day.
 
HILLTOPPER NOTES
  • Hilltopper senior LAUREN SLATTEN picked up the victory allowing one run on three hits while striking out five in 5.0 innings of work.
  • Freshman HANNAH HALEPASKA worked two innings of solid relief, allowing two hits.
  • Hoffman has 10 hits in her last eight games to raise her batting average to .315.
  • St. Edward's also started 3-1 in conference play last season.
  • The Hilltoppers increased their all-time series lead against the Aggies to 41-4.
