AUSTIN, Texas – St. Edward's defeated Texas A&M International 2-0 Thursday afternoon in a critical Heartland Conference contest.
After numerous dangerous attacks through the opening 15 minutes the Hilltoppers finally saw their hard work payoff as
DYLAN ARMSTRONG played the ball in and
KIERAN FURSE sent a long shot from outside the box off the far post and into the net to put SEU up 1-0.
TAMIU quickly responded and turned it up offensively as the Hilltoppers cranked it up defensively. SEU allowed just one shot by the Dustdevils in the first half and headed into the break with a 1-0 lead.
As the second half got underway it was clear it was only a matter of time until SEU added to their lead.
GEORGE MURRAY made it a reality with a laser shot from 20 yards out, giving the Hilltoppers some breathing room in the 59th minute.
The Hilltoppers improve to 5-6-1 on the year and 4-4-1 in the Heartland, moving ahead of Texas A&M International.
SEU remains at home to face St. Mary's University for the battle of the Saints on Saturday for a 2:30 kick.
