AUSTIN, Texas – The St. Edward's offense was firing on all cylinders Saturday afternoon as they blasted St. Mary's for five goals en route to a 5-1 Heartland Conference win.
DYLAN ARMSTRONG continued his scoring spree with the first goal of the match, assisted by
JEREMY BISCHOFF, in the sixth minute to put SEU up 1-0. The lead would hold heading into halftime, but with the wind at their backs it was a different story in the second half.
Just over a minute into the frame
MARCUS COLLINS, assisted by
PARKER FYFE, gave SEU a 2-0 lead and
GEORGE MURRAY, assisted by
CODY SPITZER, placed a beautiful shot in the side netting to give the Hilltoppers a commanding 3-0 lead.
St. Mary's snuck one past the SEU defense that had been so dominant all day to bring the count to 3-1 in the 54th minute, but when other teams would stack the box St. Edward's continued to attack.
Armstrong flicked the ball into the box and
CODY SPITZER expertly placed the ball in the back of the net to hand SEU a three-goal lead once again. Armstrong's dominance continued as he added one more goal for good measure, drilling home a deflection in the 85th minute to give St. Ed's the 5-1 win.
SEU dominated every aspect offensively, logging 17 shots while allowing just six and leading 4-2 in corner kicks.
With the win The Hilltoppers improve to 6-6-1 overall and 5-4-1 in the conference and return to the road to face West Texas A&M on Thursday, October 18 at 7 pm in Canyon, Texas.
