AUSTIN, Texas – The score line may read like a close game but it was anything but as St. Edward's defeated Rogers State 1-0 Saturday afternoon.
Hot and windy conditions ruled the opening half as neither team was able to put one on the scoreboard. SEU wasn't without their opportunities, however, with five corners and three shots in the frame while the Hillcats' scoring opportunities were few with just two shots and no corners.
As the second half got underway the Hilltoppers went on attack with the wind at their back. Early shots were just off the mark, sailing just off frame, but it was clear a goal was imminent.
SARAH GUNDERSON took matters into her own hands, dribbling past four defenders before beating the keeper and netting the game-winner in the 79th minute.
SEU logged 13 shots in the second half while holding RSU to three and logged nine corners while allowing none.
ANNABEL SWEENEY posted her ninth clean sheet of the year with the win, recording one save on the afternoon.
St. Edward's improves to 8-3-2 on the year and 8-1-1 in the Heartland while Rogers State falls to 7-5-2 overall, 4-4-2 in conference. The Hilltoppers return to the road for four games to close out regular season play, facing Oklahoma Christian first on Thursday, October 18 at 7 pm in Oklahoma City.
