St. Edward's Tops Dallas Baptist

DALLAS, Texas – St. Edward's volleyball pulled out a 3-2 win on the road, defeating Dallas Baptist 21-25, 25-23, 25-21, 16-25, 15-12.

After trailing by nine, 18-9, in the first set the Hilltoppers went on a 10-1 run to even the set 19-19. SEU wasn't able to hold off DBU any longer, however, as the Patriots won 25-21.

St. Edward's rebounded to take the second set 25-23 despite hitting just .106 but came out firing on all cylinders in the third set with a .244 attack percentage to win 25-21 and take a 2-1 lead.

The dominant attack didn't last long, however, as Dallas Baptist adjusted and held St. Ed's to .043 in the fourth set, winning 25-16 and force a fifth set.

SEU raced to the first eight points in the fifth set, leading 8-5 at the side change. Dallas Baptist refused to go quietly and eventually tied the set 9-9. The Hilltoppers were unable to find their groove offensively until KATE HENDRIX and MIKAYLA PARKER got SEU going again with a big block at the net and NICOLE PETERS followed with the kill to tie the set 12-12.

Back-to-back kills by KATARINA MENDEZ brought the Hilltoppers within one point of the set win, 14-12, and a DBU attack error closed out the match.

Mendez led the offense with 13 kills while MADDIE MIKSCH and ALEXA MCANDREW added nine each. McAndrew led defensively with 27 digs with MORGAN BECKHAM adding 23 and NICOLE PETERS chipping in four blocks.

SEU improves to 12-7 on the year with the win and 2-1 in Heartland Conference play. They return to action on Saturday, facing Lubbock Christian in Lubbock at noon.
