SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The St. Edward's women's soccer team earned their tenth Heartland Conference regular season title with a thrilling 2-1 overtime win over St. Mary's Saturday.
A relatively quiet first half gave way to a flurry of activity in the second half. Both teams entered the frame scoreless, but St. Mary's broke the stalemate in the 54th minute on a breakaway.
SEU seemed poised to score the equalizer as they were awarded a penalty kick in the 58th minute, but
SABRINA CONE's shot curved just wide to keep the Rattler's 1-0 lead intact.
ISABELLA CAMARATA headed home the equalizer in the 65th minute, assisted by
ELIANNA CHAVEZ's corner kick while
INDIA WENTZ secured the game-winner in the 95th minute, sending home
KATHERINE WHITMAN's service to the far post.
With the win SEU improves to 11-4-2 on the year and 11-2-1 in conference play. The Hilltoppers will serve as host for the 2018 Heartland Conference Championship beginning on Thursday, November 1.
