Box Score LAS VEGAS, Nev. - St. Edward's was held to four second quarter points and were unable to recover, falling 64-51 to Washburn in their first game at the Las Vegas Hoopla Monday.
SEU trailed by just two points, 14-12, at the end of the first quarter, but the Hilltopper offense went cold, scoring just four points in the second quarter while giving up 24 in the frame to trail 38-16 at the half.
Head Coach JJ Riehl refocused St. Edward's at the break and the Hilltoppers came out with renewed vigor, outscoring the Ichabod in the third quarter but still trailed heading into the fourth. Despite outscoring Washburn in the fourth quarter also, the deficit was too much to overcome as SEU fell 64-51.
SEU was -10 in rebounding margin and gave up 22 points off turnovers. Washburn was held to just two three-pointers but got 30 points in the paint. The Hilltoppers shot 33.9% from the field and 31.6% from three point range but went just 7-16 from the free throw line.
ISABEL HERNANDEZ had a huge night, posting 26 points on 10-20 shooting from the floor, 4-6 from three point range and grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds. ABBY HOPPER added seven boards in the loss.
St. Edward's drops to 8-3 on the season and remain in Las Vegas to face Pittsburg State on Tuesday at 6 pm PT.
