WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PUSHES WIN STREAK TO FIVE WITH BIG WIN OVER JARVIS CHRISTIAN

AUSTIN, Texas – The St. Edward's Women's Basketball team posted their third-largest point total this season in an 82-54 win over Jarvis Christian College Tuesday night.

JCC came out on a mission, shooting 80% from the floor in the opening five minutes before SEU pounced. After a tight start to the game St. Edward's was able to build a slight six point advantage by the end of the first, 19-13.

The Hilltoppers continued to pull away, increasing their lead to as many as 16 points, 39-23, with 1:20 remaining in the half. A three by ABBY HOPPER from the left wing put St. Edward's up 17, 42-25, heading into the locker room.

SEU shot 51.6% from the floor and 45.5% from three-point range in the frame while holding Jarvis Christian to 39.3% from the field and 0-9 from long range.

As the second half got underway the Hilltopper offense began to calmly and systematically pick apart the Bulldog defense to build upon their lead. ABBY HOPPER pounded the offensive glass to earn SEU multiple second chances, increasing their lead to 25, 61-36, by the end of the third.

With a comfortable lead in hand the Hilltoppers closed the game out with ease, 82-54.

SEU was led by MARYAM WILCHER who posted 17 points while going a perfect 4-4 from long range and 6-10 from the field. Hopper ended just one rebound shy of a double-double, posting 12 points with nine boards while ISABEL HERNANDEZ chipped in 13 points and LEXI CUNNINGHAM 10. CHRISTINA MASON added season-highs in assists (7) and steals (3) in the win.

Head Coach J.J. Riehl moves within two wins of the 100 career win mark as SEU improves to 8-1 on the year. The Hilltoppers will enjoy a much deserved break before returning to action on Friday, December 14 to face their toughest competition thus far, taking on Tarleton State University at 6 pm.
