THE RUNDOWN
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Texas Woman's and Fort Hays State handed the St. Edward's (0-5) softball season a pair of losses Saturday to close out the St. Mary's D2 Classic at St. Mary's Softball Stadium.
Texas Woman's and SEU were locked in a 1-1 tie until the seventh when the Pioneers led off the top of the seventh with three-straight singles from Morgan McCallum, Cheyenne Mahy and Hazel Puempel. All three players came around to score, and the Hilltoppers were set down in order in the bottom of the seventh.
KEELY FRAZIER put together perhaps the best start of the season for the Hilltoppers in the circle; she scattered five hits, allowed just one run and struck out five in the first six innings before TWU erupted in the seventh.
Fort Hays State jumped out to a 4-0 lead with two runs each in the top of the first and third innings before SEU battled back in the bottom of the third scoring a run on a throwing error and
KATHRYN CONNELLY drove home
ASHLEY NASSY with an RBI single to cut the lead to two. However, FHSU answered back in the top of the fourth with an RBI triple from Candace Bollig for the Tigers' fifth run.
VALERIE BRANT would drive home
SHELBY JANDA on a sacrifice fly for SEU in the bottom of the sixth, but that would be the extent of the rally.
