THE RUNDOWN
AUSTIN, Texas – St. Edward's University's softball team is still in search of its first win after Rogers State (13-4, 2-0) swept a Heartland Conference doubleheader with the Hilltoppers (0-11, 0-4) at Diane Daniels Field Sunday. The Hillcats won game one 11-6 and followed with a 4-1 win in game two.
Â
In game one,
LAUREN GARZA's 3-run homer tied the score at four in the bottom of the second for SEU and
VALERIE BRANT followed with a 2-run shot in the third to give the Hilltoppers a 6-4 lead. However, the Hillcats answered with a three-run home run from Rylee DeLozier in the fourth to put the visitors up 7-6, and RSU never looked back.
Â
In game two Tailee Reding picked up her second win of the day in the circle by throwing 3.1 innings of scoreless relief. St. Edward's struck first in the bottom of the first on an RBI double from
SAMI WILLIAMS off RSU starter Alex Brake, but Merissa Smith's two-run single for the Hillcats in the top of the second would prove to be the game-winning hit. Reding combined for two victories out of the bullpen for RSU and limited SEU to three hits in 7.1 innings of scoreless work.
