AUSTIN, Texas – Newman's Hannah Alexander broke a 58-all tie by converting an and-one opportunity and scored five of the Jets' final seven points in the final two minutes on the way to a 65-60 win over St. Edward's Saturday at the RCC in Heartland Conference play.

In a game that saw the score tied 11 times and the lead change 22, the visiting Jets had the last run when Alexander was fouled on a made basket, hit the free throw and gave Newman (16-8, 7-3 HC) a 61-58 lead with 1:42 remaining.

After another Alexander bucket SEU's (10-12, 4-6 HC)
ISABEL HERNANDEZ put the Hilltoppers within striking distance with a jumper cutting the lead to 63-60 with 48 seconds remaining. After the Jets made 1-of-2 free-throw attempts with 42 seconds remaining, SEU fell short on two field goal attempts and were forced to foul with 12 seconds left and Newman held on from there.

Hernandez scored 21 points and grabbed seven rebounds in the losing effort for SEU while
BAILEY HILL chipped in 15.
LEXI CUNNINGHAM had six points and a career-high six assists. Newman's Nia Roberts scored 18 and Alexander had 16 to lead the Jets.

J.J. Riehl for sixth all-time on the SEU career 3-point field goals list with her third triple Saturday (Riehl, 116, 1998-2002).
• Hill's three 3-pointers gave her 41 on the season, which matched her previous season's best (41 as a freshman in 15-16) and also tied herself for the 10
th-most 3-point field goals in a season by a Hilltopper.
• Hill scored 15 points, grabbed six rebounds and had a game-high two steals; Hill has 10 games this season with double-digit points and 25 in her career.

ABBY HOPPER scored nine points and had three assists; her fourth point was the 450
th of her career.

26 – Newman was sent to the free-throw line 26 times and converted on 19 while SEU was only afforded 15 attempts, but the Hilltoppers connected on 12.

SEU Head Coach J.J. Riehl on the end of the game …
"I just think we have some breakdowns. I mean obviously, the offensive end, but that's never going to [change]. That's going to be us for the rest of the year. It's not like that's going to miraculously change. I think we were up three, and we had a miscommunication or a breakdown on a simple screen that was supposed to be a switch, and we didn't switch and [Bria] DeGrate got an open three in the corner, and you could tell it just deflated us. Alexander got an and-one, they went up three, and that's tough for this group. You know, we're just not tough enough yet. We're not mentally strong enough to have to be back and come back and knock down a three when the pressure is on us. So, just little things. It's nothing huge; just have to be more disciplined."
