COMMERCE, Texas – Texas A&M-Commerce defeated St. Edward's softball in SEU's season opener Wednesday 9-1 in six innings at John Cain Family Field before the second game of the doubleheader was halted due to weather through four innings.

SEU (0-1) jumped out with the first run of season in the top of the first inning Wednesday to begin the first game of the doubleheader, however the Lions rebounded to score nine unanswered to hand the Hilltoppers their first loss of the season.
SHELBY JANDA reached on an error and freshman
VALERIE BRANT collected her first collegiate hit and RBI in the same at bat scoring Janda in the top of the first for SEU. From there, however, it would be all Lions as TAMC's Emily Otto would allow just two hits the rest of the way, and Kinsie Hebler drove in four runs including her fourth home run of the season for the Lions.

In the second game, the teams completed four innings of play with Texas A&M-Commerce leading 2-0 before the game was halted due to weather. SEU trailed, but out-hit the lions 6-3 in the suspended contest. Play will resume in the top of the fifth inning prior to a March 14 doubleheader between the two schools in Austin at Noon.

th hit of her career.

VALERIE BRANT picked up her first collegiate hit and RBI in the same at bat in the top of the first inning.
• Kari Rodriguez was hit by a pitch in the first inning, and that gave her six consecutive games to reach base dating back to last season.
