THE RUNDOWN
AUSTIN, Texas – St. Edward's and Texas A&M International split a doubleheader Tuesday at Diane Daniels Field in Heartland Conference play, with the Hilltoppers (3-21, 3-10) taking game one 4-3 and the Dustdevils (10-21, 7-6) taking game two 4-1.
Â
KAYLA APPLEBY's RBI fielder's choice in the bottom of the seventh, with the bases loaded, gave SEU the win in game one.
ASHLEY NASSY crossed to score the winning run when Appleby's grounder to shortstop was too deep for the Dustdevils infield to complete the out at home, and the Hilltoppers snapped a five-game losing skid.
Â
In game two, TAMIU clung to a 1-0 lead until the sixth inning when the Dustdevils were finally able to solve SEU starter
OLIVIA BURDICK. The visitors led off the top of the sixth with back-to-back singles before Samantha Edmiston's double brought both runners home. Edmiston scored from second base on the ensuing groundout, and the three-run sixth would be too much for SEU to overcome.
KAYLA APPLEBY tripled home
SHELBY JANDA in the sixth for the Hilltoppers, but that would be the only rally from the home team.
