THE RUNDOWN

AUSTIN, Texas – Oklahoma Christian (18-16, 8-7 HC) took two close games over St. Edward's (3-28, 3-13) at Diane Daniels Field Friday in Heartland Conference play. The Eagles won 6-4 in game one and edged the Hilltoppers 2-1 to close the afternoon.

In game one, OC jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the third highlighted by a two-run single from the Eagles' Hunter Strickland. The Hilltoppers struck back with two in the bottom of the third, thanks to an RBI triple from SAMI WILLIAMS, who later scored on a wild pitch. However, OC scored two in the sixth and one in the seventh to extend the lead to 6-2. SEU's last-ditch effort in the bottom of the seventh showed spark when LAUREN GARZA hit a two-out, two-run double, but that would be the last of the Hilltoppers' rally.

In game two SEU starter OLIVIA BURDICK's solid performance was spoiled as the junior right-hander struck out a career high seven and only allowed two runs on five hits in a complete game. The Hilltoppers had a chance to take the lead in the fourth but ASHLEY NASSY was thrown out at the plate on a grounder in the infield. Then in the bottom of the seventh with OC leading 2-1, VALERIE BRANT was caught in a rundown trying to advance to third base with one outs on a DEJA LEE single. From there, with two outs OC reliever Madison Nordyke retired SHELBY JANDA to end the game.

Bridget White hit a solo home run in the top of the first for the Eagles, and Nordyke's infield single scored Sheridan Fuller from second base as the slow-rolling ball was hit deep in the hole to second base with no time for a play at the plate.
