THE RUNDOWN

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – St. Mary's (27-12, 15-2) took a pair of games from St. Edward's (3-31, 3-15) in Heartland Conference play Tuesday at the St. Mary's Softball Field. The Rattlers won game one 2-1 and capped the afternoon with a 7-3 victory.

St. Mary's scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning of game one on an Allesandra Ortiz RBI single and a Kristal Salinas RBI walk, which would be all the Rattlers would need for the win. SEU's Kari Rodriguez hit a solo home run in the top of the seventh, but St. Mary's starter Staci Johns didn't allow any further damage and picked up the complete-game victory to improve to 14-5 on the season.

In game two, the Rattlers jumped out with four runs in the first inning and extended their lead to 5-0 in the bottom of the fourth. Rodriguez's fifth home run of the season, a three-run shot, cut the lead to two for St. Edward's in the top of the sixth, but from there the Hilltoppers final four outs came in order.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
• Kari Rodriguez homered for SEU's only run in the top of the seventh inning.
SARA MACHADO went 2-for-3 at the plate for her seventh multi-hit game of the season.
REAGAN CARTER threw two innings of scoreless relief.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS
• Kari Rodriguez recorded her fourth multiple RBI game of the season with her three RBIs on a three-run homer in the sixth; it was the seventh multi-RBI game of her career.
OLIVIA BURDICK's first of three strikeouts Tuesday was the 100th of her career.

WHAT'S NEXT
St. Edward's resumes Heartland Conference play April 6-7 in Austin vs. Lubbock Christian with a three-game series at Diane Daniels Field.
