THE RUNDOWN

LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International (21-28, 17-10 HC) used a three-run sixth to slip past St. Edward's (5-37, 4-20) Saturday to close the Heartland Conference series at Dustdevil field.

SEU struck first with an RBI single from SARA MACHADO to score Kari Rodriguez in the top of the fifth inning for a 1-0 lead. But, the Dustdevils had back-to-back RBI doubles in the bottom of the sixth from Lindsey Smith and Alyssa Acuna to take a 2-1 advantage before Brandi Giles added insurance with an RBI single later in the inning.

In the seventh, Rodriguez reached on an error and SAMI WILLIAMS walked to put the go-ahead run at the plate with no outs. However, the Dustdevils turned a double play when LAUREN GARZA grounded into the 6-4-3 twin killing before Delainy Thompson (W, 9-12) struck out Machado to end the game. KEELY FRAZIER (L, 2-10) scattered eight hits and gave up two runs in five innings of work in the circle for the Hilltoppers.

TAMIU took four of five games from the Hilltoppers in league play this season and all three this weekend after sweeping a doubleheader Friday.
