THE RUNDOWN
AUSTIN, Texas – St. Mary's made a final push for first place in the Heartland Conference regular season standings with a doubleheader sweep on the last day of the regular season Saturday at Diane Daniels Field. The Rattlers (34-21, 20-9 HC) took game one 9-2 and won game two 4-1 over the Hilltoppers (7-45, 6-24) and will wait to see if they will hold the No. 1 seed headed into the conference tournament next week.
In game one, Hope Russell scattered five hits and allowed just two SEU runs while Alex Moreno's pinch-hit three-run home run in the top of the fourth gave St. Mary's a 6-0 lead.
SARA MACHADO's RBI single and
KAYLA APPLEBY's solo homer in the bottom of the fifth would be all the SEU offense would muster.
In game two, with the score tied at one, the Rattlers scored two unearned runs on an RBI double from from Alessandra Ortiz and a run-scoring single from Alex Moreno to extend the lead to 3-1. From there, the Rattlers would score another run in the top of the seventh and St. Mary's starter Staci Johns set down six of the last seven batters she faced on her way to a 16
th victory in the circle.
St. Edward's senior
SAMI WILLIAMS played her final two games in a Hilltoppers uniform and after starting the game at designated player in game two, head coach Meghan Mullin placed her behind the dish for the final out of the top of the seventh inning. Williams started 67 games at catcher in her career and played in 132 for the navy and gold.
GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS

KAYLA APPLEBY hit her 10th career home run and third of the season with a solo shot in the bottom of the fifth inning.

SARA MACHADO's RBI single in the bottom of the fourth inning was her 12
th RBI of the season.
• Kari Rodriguez's double in the bottom of the first inning tied her for ninth all-time on the SEU single-season list with 13.
GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS

REAGAN CARTER allowed only two earned runs in a complete-game loss for SEU and allowed just two earned runs in 12 innings of work in the series vs. St. Mary's.
• Kari Rodriguez's RBI single in the bottom of the second was her team-leading 24
th of the season; she finished the year with a .340 batting average and a .639 slugging mark.
• Rodriguez's .639 slugging percentage is seventh-best all-time in SEU's single-season record book.
