CARROLLTON, Texas – St. Edward's took on Lubbock Christian in game one of the Heartland Challenge and fell 3-1 Friday.
Lubbock Christian took the first two sets 25-20, 25-21 by holding SEU's multifaceted attack to just .175 and .167 attack percentage, respectively.
A renewed St. Edward's team took the court in the third set as their defense went on lock down, keeping Lubbock Christian to a hitting percentage of just .129 in the set after hitting over .200 in the first two sets. The Hilltoppers' offense got going as well to win the third set 25-18.
LCU was able to build a slight lead early and then hold on the rest of the way to take the fourth set 25-20.
ALEXA MCANDREW led offensively with 16 kills with an impressive .378 attack percentage while
MELISSA MCNEIL added in 11.
EMILY TRAN posted 21 assists and
JULIA HARTLEY 20 as
MORGAN BECKHAM posted 18 digs to lead defensively.
SEU returns to play on Saturday, facing Texas A&M International at 10 am in Carrollton, Texas.
