WICHITA, Kan. –St. Edward's (7-3) faced one of their toughest opponents to date, falling 3-1 to #10 Central Missouri (8-2) at the Jet Classic Friday.
Long rallies marked the opening set as Central Missouri embarked on an 16-point run to win the first set 25-6.
The Hilltoppers shook off the first set and got back to work, going toe-to-toe with the Jennies. Midway through, with the set tied 14-14, Central Missouri turned up the heat once again and took the set two win 25-15.
SEU battled throughout the third set, taking the lead 19-17 after trailing by four earlier. UCM kicked off another run to regain the lead 21-19 but a well-placed timeout by Head Coach Stefanie Holler refocused the Hilltoppers who then posted a 5-0 run of their own en route to the 25-22 set three win.
As the fourth set got underway St. Edward's continued their run, opening up 5-1, and retained the lead until UCM went up 15-14. The lead then bounced back and forth until SEU regained it 19-18, but the Jennies had one final run left to close out the set 25-23 to win the match.
ALEXA MCANDREW led the attack with ten kills and a .240 attack percentage. She was also second on the team in digs with 13, trailing
MORGAN BECKHAM by one.
OLIVIA ROME posted a team-high 15 assists while
JULIA HARTLEY added 13.
SEU returns to action on Saturday, facing Northwest Missouri State at 10 am and #25 Missouri Western State at 4 pm.
