FIRST QUARTER OUTBURST DOOMS HILLTOPPERS

Box Score SAN ANTONIO, Texas – St. Mary's outscored the St. Edward's Women's Basketball team 20-6 to set up a 56-37 Hilltopper loss Thursday evening.
 
SEU trailed by just one, 7-6, with just under six minutes to play in the first but then went silent as the Rattlers closed the frame on a 13-0 run.
 
By halftime STMU's lead had swelled to 22, 32-10, as St. Edward's was held to just four second quarter points.
 
St. Mary's led by as many 26 in the third quarter before the Hilltoppers cut it to 18, 45-27, heading into the fourth. The deficit was just too much to overcome as SEU wasn't able to pull closer than 17 points.
 
SAMMIE DUFEK had a career-best outing in her first double-double with a team high 12 points and 12 rebounds. GABRIELA BOSQUEZ added seven points while ISABEL HERNANDEZ posted seven boards.
 
The Hilltoppers fall to 10-11 on the year and 2-5 in the Heartland Conference. They return home to face Texas A&M International on Saturday at 1 pm.
