AUSTIN – JEREMY BISCHOFF headed in a corner-kick service for St. Edward's just before halftime, but Lubbock Christian answered in the second half, as the Lone Star Conference (LSC) contest ended in a 1-1 draw on Thursday at Lewis-Chen Family Field.
The Hilltoppers (2-5-2, 2-1-1 LSC) controlled the possession for a majority of the opening 45 minutes. However, the Chaparrals (6-3-1, 2-1-1 LSC) kept the game scoreless for the first 44-plus minutes.
St. Edward's was awarded a corner kick just before halftime that was immediately knocked away, setting up one more chance.
FELIPE LATORRE drove the service into the box and found Bischoff, who guided the ball past the goalkeeper as time expired.
Lubbock Christian scored the equalizer early in the second half, as Pablo Diez took advantage of a miscue in the SEU defensive third of the field. Diez took control of the ball and was in a one-on-one situation with Hilltopper goalkeeper
MARKO LILIC. As Lilic raced off his line, Diez took his shot low and into the back of the net to tie the contest.
St. Edward's had two more chances for a game-winner in regulation. Bischoff found himself free in the box and attempted another header, but it lacked pace and LCU goalkeeper Braxton Thorne grabbed it out of the air.
The most dangerous opportunity in the final part of regulation came in the 78th minute.
CHEN ADJEI had the ball played to his feet by
RUBEN GONZALEZ. Adjei was in the front of the goal, but pressure from a Chap defender caused his shot to bounce off the far post before it was cleared away.
Lubbock Christian was the only squad to put a shot on target in the extra frame, but the shot was scooped up by Lilic to preserve the draw.
St. Edward's attempted nine shots, including five on net. The Hilltoppers helped a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Meanwhile, the Chaps took six shots overall, including four on target.
St. Edward's will return to action Saturday, as UT Permian Basin comes to the Hilltop. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m.
