AUSTIN – St. Edward's men's soccer, for the second time this season, knocked off nationally-ranked Texas A&M International, defeating the Dust Devils 2-0 Thursday afternoon.
St. Edward's broke the stalemate in the 24
th minute with a perfectly placed corner by
PARKER FYFE to the near post. His ball was headed and redirected by
IZAAC ZAUSCH to
MATTHEW PARKER who headed it home for the first goal of the contest.
SEU continued to look dangerous throughout the remainder of the half with coordinated attacks and quick restarts on fouls but held just a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
Midway through the second half the Hilltoppers got some breathing room they had desperately been searching for as
ALEXANDER TEJEDA played a long ball out of the back field to
CHEN ADJEI up top. Adjei used a quick touch to beat TAMIU's keeper one-on-one outside the box and delicately placed the ball in the back of the net, giving SEU a 2-0 advantage with 25 minutes remaining.
Frustration began to mount as the Dust Devils felt the chance to even the game slip through their hands while the SEU defense remained stout. TAMIU's chances were few and far between in the waning moments of the game as St. Edward's closed out the win.
SEU improves to 3-5-2 and remain at 3-1-1 after the non-conference contest. They return to action on Saturday, facing West Texas A&M in another non-conference tilt hosted by Richland College in Dallas at 7 pm.
