AUSTIN – MICHALIS CLARK scored in the first three minutes of the contest and then St. Edward's poured it on in the second half with three more goals en route to a 4-0 victory against West Texas A&M on Thursday afternoon at Lewis-Chen Family Field.
The Hilltoppers (5-6-2, 4-1-1 LSC) had a 16-10 advantage in shot attempts at the end of the contest.
Meanwhile, freshman
KELLEN GULLION posted a clean sheet in his first home start for St. Edward's. Gullion turned away five shots on target by the Buffs (5-5-1, 1-3-1 LSC) for his first career shutout.
With the Hilltoppers on the attack early,
GEORGE MURRAY played a ball to Clark in the box. The freshman from Cyprus then put it into the back of the open net for the game-winning score.
Following halftime, Murray found himself on the end of a free-kick service by
CODY SPITZER. Murray was playing on the far side of the box before Spitzer's service came his way and he turned the ball around with a right-footed shot to get past the goalkeeper in the 51st minute.
Four minutes later,
CHEN ADJEI drove the ball to the touch line, before leaving it for
KIERAN FURSE, who was in front of the net. Furse then pushed it into the back of the net to give SEU a 3-0 lead.
The final score came in the 83rd minute, as
GRANT VERNON and
FABIAN PALLARES got behind the West Texas A&M defensive group. Pallares pushed the ball ahead until the goalkeeper came out and then played to the middle of the box allowing Vernon to tap it over the line for the final score.
The Hilltoppers will play their final home game of the regular season on Saturday against Eastern New Mexico. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m., but 10 minutes before the start, St. Edward's will honor its senior student-athletes for their final home contest.
