St. Edward's routs Eastern New Mexico, 6-0

AUSTIN – St. Edward's rolled to a 6-0 victory over Eastern New Mexico in a Lone Star Conference contest on Saturday at Lewis-Chen Field.

The contest, which was the Hilltoppers' final home regular-season tilt of the year, began with SEU honoring its six senior student-athletes – PARKER FYFE, RUBEN GONZALEZ, MATTHEW PARKER, CODY SPITZER, JARROD TOMASEK and DANIEL WAKEHAM.

Once the match kicked off, the Hilltoppers were on the attack.

In the eighth minute, CHEN ADJEI sent a pass across the box to the near side where J.P. Rodriguez rifled a left-footed shot into the back of the net.

GEORGE MURRAY was taken down in the penalty area eight minutes later, setting up a penalty kick for the 'Toppers. Fyfe stepped to the spot and guided left-footed strike past the goalkeeper.

Murray then got on the board himself in the 26th minute. The junior cut through the Greyhound defense before taking a low shot that found the back of the net.

In the 35th minute, Izaac Zauch got his leg on a ball that was bouncing in the box and volleyed it in for the fourth score of the match.

After halftime, the Hilltoppers struck in the 58th minute off a corner. Fyfe received a short corner and then served it into the box, where CHEN ADJEI was waiting to knock the ball into the goal.

The final score came in the 87th minute, as ALEXANDER TEJEDA pushed the ball up the near side and cut the corner before squeezing a shot in between the keeper and the near post.

St. Edward's (6-6-2, 5-1-1 LSC) posted an 18-8 advantage in shot attempts over Eastern New Mexico (8-4-1, 0-4-1 LSC).

Freshman goalkeeper KELLEN GULLION earned his second consecutive clean sheet. Gullion was left untested during the match, facing eight shots that were not on target.

The Hilltoppers will travel to play UT Tyler on Thursday, Oct. 31. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Tyler.
