FORT SMITH, Ark. – St. Edward's volleyball took on one of the top teams in the conference and were ultimately upended, falling 3-1 to Arkansas-Fort Smith Saturday afternoon, 25-12, 21-25, 25-18, 25-22.

SEU had a slow start after the quick turnaround from Friday night's match, dropping the first set 25-12.

The Hilltoppers quickly rebounded, however, to win the second set with a .270 attack percentage while holding UAFS to .135.

SEU held onto a slight advantage in the third set, but three straight attack errors by the Hilltoppers allowed the Lions to take a 16-14 lead. St. Edward's was never able to make up the ground to regain the lead, falling 25-18 in the third.

With the fourth set tied 11-11 SEU was unable to get the break they were looking for and went down 14-12. SEU clawed their way back and were within one point late in the set, 23-22, but UAFS scored the final two points on back-to-back serves to secure the win.

MELISSA MCNEIL led the attack with 14 kills while ALEXA MCANDREW added in 12. MADDIE MIKSCH and MAYA SMALLS posted four blocks each while Nicole Grant led defensively with 15 digs.

SEU drops to 13-7 on the year and 8-4 in Lone Star Conference play while UAFS improves to 17-6 overall and 10-2 in conference play. The Hilltoppers return to action on Tuesday, October 29 to take on St. Mary's in San Antonio at 6 pm.
