Box Score TYLER, Texas – St. Edward's improved to 6-0 on Thursday evening with a 60-51 win over UT Tyler to begin Lone Star Conference play.
SEU jumped out to a quick lead and used suffocating defense to post a 12-point lead at halftime, 35-23. UTT managed just ten field goals in the frame and were forced into 14 turnovers.
By the midway point of the second half the Patriots had pulled within five, 45-40.
COREY SHERVILL's jumper got the Hilltoppers back on track and sparked a run. Despite the run, SEU held just a six-point advantage, 53-47, with just over four minutes to play.
The Patriots hung close but were unable to pull within striking distance as SEU closed out the win.
DORIAN LOPEZ led the way with 15 points and eight rebounds in the win while the Hilltoppers shot 44.9 percent from the floor. UTT won the rebounding battle at 35-32 but St. Edward's was +3 in turnover margin.

JAKE KRAFKA contributing eight.
St. Edward's will face their toughest opponent to date, taking on Texas A&M-Commerce on Saturday evening at 8 pm.
