AUSTIN – St. Edward's women's basketball outscored Colorado Christian 26-8 in the third quarter including a 15-0 run to start the frame en route to a 72-44 win to open the season.
 
With the game tied 5-5 with just over four minutes to play in the first quarter SEU busted the game open with a 9-0 run.
 
The lead held throughout the second quarter but the Hilltoppers were unable to build on it and headed into the locker room with a ten-point advantage, 33-23, after Dejiah Blanks' three on the final possession of the half.  
 
St. Edward's exploded out of halftime and within a blink of an eye were up by 25, 48-26, just four minutes into the frame. LEXI CUNNINGHAM's layup with 29 seconds remaining gave SEU their largest lead of the third, 29 points, and set up the confident finish for the Hilltoppers.
 
The Hilltoppers shot 43.8 percent from the floor and 36.8 percent from 3-point range in the win while holding the Cougars to 38.1 percent from the floor and 26.7 percent from long range. SEU forced a staggering 26 turnovers and were +1 in rebounding margin.
 
Blanks posted 21 points in her debut on the Hilltop to lead St. Edward's while Haley Blankenship added 10 points. SAMMIE DUFEK led on the glass with seven boards.
 
SEU opens the year at 1-0 and returns to the court on Saturday, facing Colorado School of Mines at 7 p.m.
