AUSTIN - For the third time this season the St. Edward's men's basketball team eclipsed 100 points, this time accomplishing the feat in a 107-53 routing of Millsaps College Saturday afternoon.Â
Six Hilltoppers scored in double figures in the lopsided win, led by
ASHTON SPEARS who posted 21 points on 8-13 shooting in just 21 minutes of play.
COREY SHERVILLÂ added 16 with an impressive performance from the perimeter, going 4-7 from three-point range as SEU shot nearly 55 percent from the floor and 45 percent from long range.
JAKE KRAFKA added 14 points,
LUKE PLUYMENÂ and
AUGUST HAAS12 each and
RYAN GARZA 11.
Millsaps started well early, leading briefly in the first half 15-14. SEU then went on a 14-3 run over the next four minutes to lead by double-digits for the first time in the contest, 28-18, with 10:50 remaining in the first.Â
St. Edward's turned up the heat defensively and took a 28-point lead into halftime, 56-28. SEU earned 27 points off turnovers in the first half while forcing the Majors into 17 turnovers.Â
The second half was more of the same with the Hilltoppers extending their lead steadily throughout the frame.
SEAN PHILLIPS' steal and dunk with 8:29 to play gave SEU a 41-point lead, 87-46, and just over four minutes later
JAKE KRAFKA hit a three from the top of the key to put St. Edward's up 50, 100-50, with just over four minutes to play.Â
SEU had just eight turnovers in the win while posting 13 steals and forcing the Majors into 30 turnovers.Â
The win improves St. Edward's to 7-1 on the season. They remain at home and return to Lone Star Conference action with a rematch of last year's NCAA Regional Final on Thursday as they host #5 West Texas A&M at 7:30 pm.Â
