Box Score LAREDO, Texas – With a 74–58 win over Texas A&M International the St. Edward's Men's Basketball team secured the Heartland Conference Regular Season Title outright for the first time since 2008 and for the fourth time in program history. Additionally, the Hilltoppers secure the #1 seed at the Heartland Conference Championship.
Defenses ruled the game early as the game was tied 10-10 with 8:39 to go in the first half. SEU went on an 11-0 run in just over two minutes to lead by 13, 26-13, and took a 15-point lead into halftime, 34-19.
SEU maintained the comfortable advantage throughout the second half, extending their lead to as many as 18. Texas A&M International had one final run in them, pulling within eight points, 48-40, with 12:18 to go, but a three by
DORIAN LOPEZ put the lead back to double digits.
The Hilltoppers never allowed another run the rest of the way, closing out the game for the easy win.
Lopez led all scorers with 19 points, shooting an impressive 5-8 from three-point range, and added a team-high nine rebounds.
COREY SHERVILL added 15 points and
RYAN GARZA 10.
AUGUST HAAS posted eight assists.
The Hilltoppers improve to 25-2 on the season and 14-1 in Heartland Conference play. They close the regular season on the road, facing Lubbock Christian on Saturday at 2 pm.
