SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Frigid temperatures could not keep the nationally-ranked TexAnns' bats from heating up as the St. Edward's softball team dropped their first game at the St. Mary's Division II Classic.
TSU wasted no time taking control of the game, posting 13 runs in the top of the first off just five hits. SEU managed to get one back in the bottom half of the frame as
KAYLA APPLEBY drove home
MORGAN LEWIS who drew a walk to leadoff the inning.
Tarleton State took that run back in the second, however, and kept the Hilltopper offense from getting on a roll the rest of the way to hand SEU the 15-3 loss.
Appleby led at the plate, going 2-3 with one RBI and one run scored.
KYLIE MICA and
SHELBY JANDA also logged hits in the loss.
JULISA ORTEGA suffered the loss in the circle, allowing eight runs on three hits with three walks and no strikeouts.
The Hilltoppers fall to 1-4 on the season and return to action on Saturday for a pair of games, facing Drury at 10 am and Eastern New Mexico at 12:15 pm to continue play at St. Mary's.
