ARLINGTON – St. Edward's dropped a 4-3 decision against No. 11 Central Oklahoma on Sunday afternoon at the Arlington Tennis Center.
The Hilltoppers (9-3) picked up all three of their points in singles play, but were unable to complete the upset.
"It was a very close match," St. Edward's head coach Kendall Brooks said. "We definitely had some chances in singles to steal it, but came up just short. It feels good to know that we are getting there against some of the top teams."
Paola Carpio,
BETH HAYWARD and
VALENTINA MARTINEZ captured points for the 'Toppers in singles competition.
Martinez remained unbeaten in dual-match play after earning a 6-3, 6-3 victory at the fourth position.
Carpio also was a straight-sets winner, picking up a 6-3, 7-5 triumph at the fifth spot.
Hayward needed a tiebreaker to collect her win at the second flight. The 5-foot-5 senior tallied a 6-2, 6-7 (2-7), 1-0 (10-8) victory.
St. Edward's will travel to California this week to play a trio of matches. The Hilltoppers will start their trip to the west coast against Holy Names on Wednesday, March 20. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. (CT) in Oakland.
