MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The 26th-ranked St. Edward's men's tennis team rolled to a 6-1 victory over Alabama-Huntsville on Thursday afternoon at the AUM Tennis Complex.
The Hilltoppers (11-4) have won 10 of their last 11 matches.
St. Edward's swept the three doubles matchups and then claimed five of the six singles tilts to defeat the Chargers (5-6).
CHASE MOREHOUSE and
LUIS DIAZ netted a 6-0 victory against the nation's 33rd-ranked doubles team at the second flight to open the match.
NICO MERCADO and
ZAC ROBINSON teamed up for a 6-3 win at the third position to clinch the doubles point.
CHASE BARTLETT and
ANISH SRINIKETH won their fourth consecutive match as a pairing with a 6-5 (6-4) decision at the top spot.
Mercado also made quick work of Chris Miller at No. 6 singles to collect a 6-2, 6-2 victory to put the 'Toppers up 2-0.
Sriniketh earned a straight-sets win at the top spot to make it 3-0.
St. Edward's picked up its next three points in come-from-behind fashion.
LOGAN BUIGNET dropped the first set at No. 5 singles before roaring back to win the next two. Buignet, who has won seven consecutive decisions, clinched the match for the Hilltoppers.
Meanwhile,
LUIS DIAZ and
GABRIEL ZUNIGA also rallied from a set down to knock off their respective opponents.
St. Edward's will remain in Alabama one more day to play 38th-ranked Auburn-Montgomery at 11 a.m. Friday.
