OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – St. Edward's Softball dropped both games of Friday's double header at Oklahoma Christian, falling 5-2, 4-3.
GAME 1: SEU 2 – OCU 5
St. Edward's got to work early, scoring in the first inning off an RBI bunt single by
KYLIE MICA, driving home
MORGAN LEWIS. Oklahoma Christian answered with three runs in the third to take a two-run lead, 3-1.
After a pair of scoreless innings OCU tacked on one in the fourth to go up by three, 4-1. The Hilltoppers made up some ground in the fifth with a single run.
KATHRYN CONNELLY's sacrifice bunt moved two runners into scoring position and Mica again came through in the clutch with a slow-rolling grounder to the right side, allowing Lewis to score.
The Eagles pushed the lead back to three with another run in the bottom of the fifth and held SEU to just one baserunner in the final two innings to give the Hilltoppers the game one loss.
Lewis,
KAYLA APPLEBY, Connelly and Mica all recorded hits in the loss while Ortega garnered the loss in the circle, allowing five runs on ten hits while walking one and striking out five.
GAME 2: SEU 3 – OCU 4
The Hilltoppers struck first once again in game two as
VALERIE BRANT's single to center drove home Mica to put SEU on top 1-0 in the second. The lead was short-lived, however, as the Eagles posted three runs in the bottom half of the inning.
St. Edward's took advantage of OCU errors in the fifth to tie the game 3-3. The first run came in on a wild pitch and a pitching change didn't curtail the Hilltoppers as Mica continued her hot streak at the plate with an RBI single to center, bringing home Appleby.
The game rolled into the final frame deadlocked at three a-piece. SEU was unable to plate the go-ahead while the Eagles scored the game winner in the seventh on an RBI single.
Lewis, Appleby, Mica, and Brant each posted one hit in game two while Carter suffered the loss in the circle, allowing four runs, three earned, on eight hits with four walks and seven strikeouts.
St. Edward's drops to 7-14 on the year and 4-9 in the conference. They return to action on Saturday to wrap up the series at Oklahoma Christian with a single game at 1 pm.
