AUSTIN – St. Edward's extended its win streak to eight matches, as the Hilltoppers defeated Southeastern Oklahoma State, 5-2, on Saturday at Austin Tennis Academy.
St. Edward's (9-3) captured the doubles point and then won four of six singles matchups to claim the non-conference tilt.
"Today was an amazing match and full team effort," Hilltoppers head coach Estevam Strecker said. "I am so proud of this team and how hard they competed. We never went away. We got down towards the end but were able to battle back and close two amazing tiebreakers for the win. I knew this was going to be a war. It feels good to come out on top."
St. Edward's jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the match after
LOGAN BUIGNET (No. 6) and
GABRIEL ZUNIGA (No. 4) earned straight-sets wins in singles play to follow up the doubles point.
After surrendering Nos. 1 and 3 singles, the Hilltoppers recovered to clinch the match at the fifth spot behind
MATEUS DE COL's three-set win.
LUIS DIAZ also battled through a full set affair, downing Sandro Lena at the second flight to close out the contest.
St. Edward's will travel to San Antonio on Friday, March 15 to face Hawai'i Pacific.
