STOUT DEFENSE NOT ENOUGH AS HILLTOPPERS FALL IN SEMIFINALS

Box Score TULSA, Okla. – St. Edward's executed their game plan well, holding Lubbock Christian to 11 points below their season average but suffered the loss Saturday 62-46.

The Hilltoppers controlled the tempo throughout the first quarter, patiently working for the best shot offensively while holding LCU to just two offensive boards to lead 16-13 at the end of one.

SEU's offense went cold in the second quarter, scoring just two points in the first six and a half minutes of the frame. The Hilltoppers posted only six points in the frame but their defense and rebounding kept LCU's lead from getting out of hand, trailing by just four points 26-22, at the half.

MARYAM WILCHER paced the offense with eight first half points while the defense allowed only five offensive rebounds and held the Chaps to 36.7% from the floor, 11.1% from three-point range.

Lubbock Christian opened the third quarter on a 9-3 run to go up by ten, 35-25, with 6:18 to play in the frame. SEU held the Chaps scoreless in the final two minutes to cut the lead to seven, 45-38, heading into the fourth.

Turnovers cost the Hilltoppers early and allowed LCU to charge ahead and post their largest lead of the game, 15 points, with just under four minutes to play.

LCU ran out the clock as much as possible in their remaining offensive possessions, limiting SEU's opportunities at a comeback until the final buzzer sounded.

MARYAM WILCHER led SEU with 16 points, shooting 5-13 from the floor and 1-2 from three-point range. BAILEY HILL and LEXI CUNNINGHAM added in 10 points each while ABBY HOPPER led with six rebounds.

SEU closes their 2018-19 campaign with a 16-14 overall mark.
