AUSTIN – The 16th-ranked St. Edward's women's tennis team extended its winning streak to seven following a 6-1 victory against Texas-Tyler on Thursday in the regular-season finale at Austin Tennis Academy.

The Hilltoppers (17-4) also honored the program's five seniors at the match.
PAO CARPIO,
ELISA GUILLEN,
BETH HAYWARD and
VALENTINA MARTINEZ wrapped up their final regular-season home match with a win.

Hayward and Martinez remained unbeaten this spring in doubles action with a 6-2 win at the No. 1 spot, which set the tone for the day.

LAURA GALVAN and Guillen clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 triumph at the third position.

Meanwhile, all five of the seniors also earned wins in singles action.

Guillen quickly took care of her opponent at the sixth position, 6-0, 6-1, to give the 'Toppers a 2-0 lead. Martinez also won in straight sets (6-2, 6-2) at the third flight.

KATE MALAZONIA provided the clincher for the match after earning a 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 2 singles.

Hayward was forced to come back from a set down to earn her singles win, while Carpio won in straight sets at the fifth spot.

St. Edward's will enter the Heartland Conference Championship as the No. 1 seed. The tournament will take place Friday-Saturday, April 26-27 at Arlington Tennis Center in Arlington.
