SOUTHLAKE – The 17th-ranked St. Edward's women's tennis team won a pair of Heartland Conference games on Friday at the Southlake Tennis Center. The Hilltoppers defeated Newman 4-0 and then shut out UAFS by the same 4-0 score.

St. Edward's improved to 15-4 on the season and 3-0 in league action. The Hilltoppers also pushed their winning streak to five matches.

NEWMAN RECAP
St. Edward's clinched the doubles point with a full sweep of the matchups. The Hilltoppers then earned wins at Nos. 3, 5 and 6 singles to close out the contest.

BETH HAYWARD and VALENTINA MARTINEZ remained unbeaten this spring with a 6-3 victory in doubles action.

ELISA GUILLEN put the 'Toppers up 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph at the fifth singles spot. FANNI NOVAK made it 3-0 behind a straight-sets win at the sixth position.

LAURA GALVAN clinched the match after posting a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Isabela Bifano at the third spot.

UAFS RECAP
The Hilltoppers picked up two quick wins in doubles action to take the early point and then earned victorious decisions at Nos. 3, 5 and 6 singles.

Hayward and Martinez pushed their doubles winning streak to 15 matches with a 6-2 win at the top spot. Galvan and Guillen also earned a 6-4 victory to help collect the early advantage.

Meanwhile, LOLI PERIM posted a 6-3, 6-0 win at the fifth singles spot to put St. Edward's up 2-0.

Guillen netted a 6-2, 6-4 win over Chloe Ruppanner at the sixth position and Galvan again closed out the contest with a 6-2, 6-3 win at the third flight.

The Hilltoppers will return to action on Friday, April 12, in a conference tilt at St. Mary's. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m. in San Antonio.
