Leah Glasgow named head softball coach at St. Edward's

Glasgow announced as head softball coach

AUSTIN – Leah Glasgow has been named St. Edward's University's eighth head softball coach, as announced by Associate Vice President of Athletics Debbie Taylor.

Glasgow was the head coach at Division II Colorado School of Mines where she rebuilt the program into a competitor in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC). The 2017 and '18 RMAC Coach of the Year, Glasgow won 139 games over the last six years to make her the all-time winningest coach in program history.

"I am very excited to welcome Leah to the Hilltop and look forward to her leadership of our softball program," Taylor said. "Coming from the RMAC, she knows first hand that the Southwest Region is consistently the strongest softball region in the country, with the bulk of that strength coming from the institutions that now make up the Lone Star Conference. She has proven success on the field, experience recruiting to a high academic institution, and her personal values align with the St. Edward's University and Holy Cross missions. I am anxious to see our team thrive under her guidance."

Last season, Mines reached the RMAC Tournament for the fourth straight year after their third consecutive winning season with balanced pitching and offense, leading them to 28 wins. The Orediggers were the RMAC's most improved defensive team as well, finishing with a .967 fielding percentage to rank second in the conference.

"I want to thank Associate Vice President of Athletics Debbie Taylor and the St. Edward's Athletics Department for giving me a great opportunity," said Coach Glasgow. "I am very excited to work with assistant coach Alexis Cantu and such a talented group of softball student-athletes. I look forward to being a part of the rich tradition at St. Edward's and creating a championship culture for the softball program."

The 2017 season was one of the best in program history after Mines went 32-15 and advanced to the RMAC Tournament final. Mines' 32 wins were its most since 2013, and they also appeared in the NCAA regional rankings for the first time since that season.

Glasgow previously served as first assistant softball coach at California State University, San Marcos from 2010 to 2013, where she oversaw the development of six All-Americans, two conference pitchers of the year and 12 all-conference selections. As the chief hitting instructor at Cal State San Marcos, the team batting average raised from to .310 in 2011 to .358 in 2012 under her guidance, and RBI production increased from 290 to 388 over that span.

After helping guide CSUSM to a school-record 55 wins and the A.I.I. Conference Championship, she was named to the NFCA/NAIA West Region Coaching Staff of the Year in 2012. The Cougars advanced to the NAIA Championship in each of her three seasons, finishing fourth in both 2011 and 2012.

Before joining the CSUSM staff, Glasgow was assistant coach at San Diego City College for two seasons as well as softball instructor at Rip City Academy and head coach of the 18U Power Surge Softball Club.

A native of Scotts Valley, Calif., Glasgow was a NAIA All-American at Dickinson State University in Dickinson, N.D. In 2006, she was named Dakota Athletic Conference 10 (DAC 10) Player of the Year and in 2007, en route to leading the Blue Hawks to the NAIA Elite Eight, garnered All-DAC 10 selection and Region III Most Valuable Player accolades. A recipient of the NAIA Champion of Character of Award, Glasgow was honored as the Dickinson State University Female Senior Athlete for the Class of 2007.

She began her collegiate playing career at West Valley College in Saratoga, Calif., twice earning All-California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) and All-Coast Conference awards, including Coast Conference Player of the Year merit in 2005.

Glasgow graduated from Dickinson State in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science in psychology and minor in sociology. She received a master's in sports business management from San Diego State in 2009.
