Box Score COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – With less than one minute remaining St. Edward's men's soccer was able to tie the match 3-3 on a goal from
GRANT VERNON, sending the contest into overtime with UC-Colorado Springs Sunday afternoon.
SEU took control early, scoring in just the ninth minute as
GEORGE MURRAY's low shot found the back of the net. It wasn't until just before halftime that UCCS was able to even the count, scoring in the 45th minute to send the match into halftime tied 1-1.
The Mountain Lions took the lead and added some cushion 25 minutes into the second half, scoring two goals within one minute of each other to lead 3-1.
PARKER FYFE, assisted by
CODY SPITZER, cut the deficit to one with a low, driving shot in the 84th minute. Fyfe then assisted on Vernon's game-tying goal to send the game into overtime.
In the extra frames, the Hilltoppers were in the attacking third of the field the majority of the time, outshooting UCCS 9-1 but were unable to score the golden goal as time expired.
Fyfe continued his impressive weekend with one goal and one assist with three shots, two on goal. St. Edward's moves to 0-3-1 and returns to action on Thursday, September 19 to face Midwestern State in Dallas in 3 pm.
