LAWTON, Okla. – The #7 St. Edward's men's basketball team continues to cruise through the LSC, posting an 88-76 win at Cameron University Saturday night. The win improves SEU to 14-1 on the season and 8-1 in the LSC.
Remaining true to form the Hilltoppers opened the game on a 19-6 run through the first eight minutes. Cameron refused to be intimidated and were able to pull within eight points twice in the first half and SEU led by just nine at the break, 43-34.
It was the Hilltopper defense that was dominant in the second half as they held CU to no points in the first three minutes, allowing SEU to eventually lead by 21, 59-38, with 14:38 remaining. St. Edward's was never threatened the remainder of the way, closing out their eighth consecutive win.
ASHTON SPEARS led the way with 18 points, going 5-11 from the floor and 4-7 from three-point range.
AUGUST HAAS posted his first double-double of the season with 17 points and 10 assists.
DORIAN LOPEZ became the 28
th player to reach 1,000 career points at St. Edward's, scoring 16 points and added a team-high 11 rebounds to post his third double-double of the season.
LUCAS DORIA came off the bench to chip in 13 points while
COREY SHERVILL added 12 and
LUKE PLUYMEN 10.
SEU returns home to face a hot Texas A&M-Kingsville squad on Thursday, January 16 at 7:30 pm.
