LUBBOCK, Texas - St. Edward's had their 11-game win streak snapped Saturday, falling 87-81 to Lubbock Christian.
LCU's offense was strong in the first half, shooting 62.5 percent from the floor and 80 percent from three-point range to lead by seven, 26-19, with just under seven minutes remaining.
SEU was not able to derail the Chaps in the first half and trailed by five at the break, 44-39. St. Edward's began to chip away and eventually took the lead, 47-46, on
ASHTON SPEARS' jumper with 17:22 to go.
After three ties and four lead changes SEU held the Chaps to without a field goal for over four minutes to lead 67-64 with 7:28 to play.
At the final media timeout the game was deadlocked 72-72. LCU went up by five 79-74 with 2:04 left but back-to-back layups by
JAKE KRAFKA pulled the Hilltoppers within one. Despite a steal out top St. Edward's was unable to get the go-ahead bucket and suffered the loss.
Spears led the Hilltoppers with 21 points, eclipsing the 1000-point mark at St. Edward's.
COREY SHERVILL added 14 points, going a perfect 5-5 from the floor and 2-2 from three-point range.
AUGUST HAAS chipped in 13 points and a team-high nine assists while Krafka and
DORIAN LOPEZ contributed ten points each.
Haas surpassed Taylor Land in the SEU record books to move into second all-time in career assists at St. Edward's with 382 and has amassed over 600 in his collegiate career.
St. Edward's falls to 17-2 overall, 11-2 in Lone Star Conference play and returns home to host Tarleton for a crucial in division contest on Thursday, January 30 at 7:30 pm.
