AUSTIN – #15 St. Edward's (1-0) outscored Texas A&M International (0-1) 28-9 to in the first ten minutes of the second half on their way to an 87-59 win to start the 2020-21 season Friday.
Both teams were tentative out of the gate but were highly efficient in the first half offensively, shooting right around 50 percent from the floor for the frame. SEU never trailed in the final 17 minutes of the half and took a six point lead into the locker room, 40-34.
RYAN GARZA kicked off the second half offensive onslaught with a three on the Hilltopper's second possession.

MARCUS HILL and
SEAN PHILLIPS hit three consecutive from deep to hand SEU their largest lead of the game, 31 points, with just over nine minutes to play.
The DustDevils were never able to get closer then 23 points as the Hilltopper's pressure defense forced turnover after turnover. St. Edward's committed just nine turnovers while forcing 21.
B.J. MAXWELL led the way for SEU with 19 points, going 8-19 from the floor and added six rebounds and four assists.
DANIEL VENZANT posted 16 points, three assists and two steals while Garza chipped in 14 points, shooting 4-7 from the floor and 3-5 from three-point range.
Garza led on the glass with eight rebounds and posted a team-high four steals while
JAKE KRAFKA added seven boards and four assists.
The Hilltoppers and DustDevils faceoff again Saturday at 2 pm.
